Memory Architecture

In Memory Architecture, a surveyor travels to the north of Sweden to survey a site for the building of a new data centre, located in order to take advantage of the cold weather to cool its servers. This systematic task of transforming the terrain into a digital model quickly becomes a desperate search for the underlying structure of the surveyor’s surroundings, calling into question the opposing yet analogous structures of data and memory, the relationship between the model and reality, and the immutability of the landscape itself in the context of climate change. The work was produced in the context of a residency at the Moskosel Creative Lab in Moskosel, Sweden. Support for the project comes from the Moskosel Creative Lab/Northern Sustainable Futures.
