Wout Biesmans

Wout Biesmans (Belgium, 1997) is a filmmaker, programmer and teacher who studied Audiovisual Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. The One Close to the Sea is his first film. Other educational assignments, such as L’ombre de Remouchamps (2018) and L’image d’une grotte (2019) have been shown locally at art festivals and in student film programs. In 2022 L’ombre de Remouchamps won the jury prize for best experimental documentary at the Small Shorts Festival in Saint Petersburg. Since 2016, he has been an active member of the vocal ensemble Vocem Flentium for which he creates audiovisual works. Biesmans organized masterclasses with Pedro Costa, Philippe Grandrieux and Annik Leroy. He teaches at the Atlas College Art and Design in Genk and is artistic director of R(a/u)pture, a Belgian collective that organizes film and music programs.
