Franz Milec

Franz Milec is a Czech/Slovak experimental filmmaker, media artist & film researcher currently based in Rome, Italy. For many years now, Franz has been exploring the intersection of film and data, making cinematic experiences using cutting-edge tools while bringing the politics of technology to the forefront.

His latest series Artifacts (2022–2024) seeks an escape from today’s hyperinflation of words and images. Taking a detour to liquid space, the series asks whether experimental cinema can still surprise us, for example by subverting artificial intelligence or state of the art visual effects.

Franz is a regular at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (part of the Doc Alliance), and his works belong to the catalog of Canadian Filmmakers’ Distribution Centre.
